The Literacy Connection

Project Enlightenment is part of the US Department of Education's Early Reading First Program through a grant received in 2003 titled "The Literacy Connection" (TLC). Goals of this grant program are to enhance select 4-year-old preschool classrooms in Wake County with "print-rich" materials and activities to encourage pre-reading skills. TLC also provides to these classrooms intensive teacher training, instructional materials, child assessment, and transition to kindergarten services. TLC continues to serve a much broader population through literacy materials, parent education, and teacher training developed as a result of the grant.

It is never too early to start reading with your child. Even young infants can benefit from exposure to books and reading. Parents and teachers are essential partners in any child's development of reading, writing, and language skills which can lead to school success.
